What's on my Skincare Shelf + The Product that's Transformed my Skin

As Nathaniel would say, I'm 'dropping' my skincare regimen with you all today (I guess that's what the kids are saying these days).

I've being anticipating this post for a while now, I've actually been using the same products for quite some time now, as time goes on I can definitely say that they've been working beautifully for my skin. Within the last year or so, I would say my skin has transformed a lot.

I grew up with pretty good skin, I was pretty blessed in high school, my skin was clear for the most part (thanks Mom + Dad); believe it or not, I didn't start wearing makeup until I graduated and began cosmetology school the beginning of 2015. It was my time to experiment with the unfamiliar: color, neutrals, avant garde, natural, dewy, matte, you name it. I was a l l over that. It seemed to be the end of that same year my skin started to act up a little bit, more than I was ever used to. I wouldn't say it completely got out of hand, I've heard stories and others go through some pretty rough times with their skin, but it was definitely out of my comfort level; let's face it though, all breakouts and acne is stubborn, it brings out a little bit of insecurity within us all.

This carried on for a little over a year and by March of this year and I was down to wearing a little bit of concealer and mascara daily. I just slowly decided I needed to let my skin breathe a bit; I'm sure piling on all that makeup to a previous unknown makeup free face wasn't helping anything. It was good to get back to feeling confident in my own skin again, to feel like I didn't need to pile on all that makeup to feel beautiful.

So here I am, concealer when needed, a little bit of filling in the brows, and a l o t of mascara later (never skimping on that one, it's always been a ride or die product for me), I'm still working on clearing up my skin from that year that decided to leave me (physical) scars from my breakouts. I can say my skin is probably in the best shape that it's been since high school thanks to some holy grail products that I absolutely swear by and refuse to go a day without (I even got Nathaniel hooked)!

I usually jump between Micellar Waters, I just recently picked up the Garnier Skinactive Micellar Water to test out. I wouldn't say it's a necessity, but if I am wearing makeup that day, it helps breaks it down rather quickly and makes for an easier job for the other products being applied. In all, it does the job it was designed for, but I don't normally really reach for it on an everyday basis.

CeraVe has been on my shelf on and off for the last two years; I always seem to come back to it. I'm using the Hydrating Facial Cleanser, it's so creamy and so good, gentle for the sensitive skin types. It cleanses and does the job exactly how I need it to.

I exfoliate my skin once or twice a week depending on how my skin is feeling and looking. I bounce back and forth between my Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant and my No7 Beautiful Skin Exfoliator. I really love the No7, it leaves my skin feeling baby soft and doesn't feel harsh in the slightest. The product itself is pretty creamy as well and very gentle on dry skin. I do love the Microfoliant as well, you create a bit of a paste with the product and a splash of water. It's also very gentle and works great on both oily and dry skin types.

This next product is an essential to my skin care routine and I really don't know what I was doing without it. The Thayers Witch Hazel is literally my jam and I've seen a huge improvement in my skin since I've been using it. I've been using this product for almost a year, I add a little product to a cotton round, apply to my skin, and then follow up with my moisturizer, currently using the CeraVe Daily Moisture Lotion. It's helped fade dark spots from scaring and tone my skin. Like I mentioned before, I go makeup free pretty daily now, I've noticed a big difference in the redness of my skin and I feel confident running around town bare face. Of course I've been using this product religiously for a year now morning and night, change doesn't happen over night, but it sure does feel great seeing results and loving the skin you're in. I'm hooked.

I really like the idea of testing out new skincare products but when it comes down to it, I'm a pretty die hard fan of my current shelf loves, and seeing the results after months of using these products, I know they'll be sticking around for a while.

XOXO,
Latisha
